Each camper chooses 3-4 program areas per session in which he or she tries new things and learns new skills, facilitating personal growth in self-esteem and independence.  In addition to learning the skill after which the program area is named (i.e. Nature, Archery, Canoeing, Dance, Drama, Athletics, etc. --See more program areas on the "Activties" page in the Programs section.), our campers also learn life skills as well.  For example, if your child were to take Waterskiing, he would learn to waterski with the instruction of our qualified staff and under the watchful eye of a lifeguard, and he also would learn things like how to step out of his comfort zone, how to accept compliments when he finally "gets up", how to give praise and support to others as his fellow campers try it out, taking turns, helping others by giving someone a hand to get back into the boat, and being responsible for things he uses when he helps put away the equipment.  Furthermore, the learning that happens at camp is isn't simply auditory--campers listen, observe, and do.  Kids who are actively engaged during the summer do better in school the following year.  Camp Y-Owasco is the perfect place to give them a break from academics and have a blast while learning new skills and growing in character!
