Roadrunner (Andy Schemerhorn) - Cabin Counselor
Hey there, Y-Campers! My name is Roadrunner, but outside of camp people call me Andy Schemerhorn. I'm an 18 year-old born and raised in Auburn, and I'm looking forward to providing your camper with an awesome experience this summer! After camp is over, I plan on going to Cayuga Community College to take courses in Broadcast Communications or Broadcast Journalism, and then transferring to Ithaca College. And I'm glad I'll be around for camp this summer! I'm an Eagle Scout with almost ten years of summer camping under my belt, and I also participated in Y-Pals at Herman Ave Elementary for my second year. When the supervisor there asked me to apply for this job, I was honored and thrilled.
As I said, I've been camping for a number of years, and I love the experience no matter what happens. I'll be cheerful every day and hope to pass some of that energy to my campers. But at the same time, my experiences as Senior Patrol Leader, Vice President of our the AHS Chess Club, and co-captain of the 2010 undefeated Cross Country team, have prepared me for any situation that could pose any sort of negative consequence for campers. Camp is fun, and we'll make sure that nothing gets in the way of that!
When I'm not off with Boy Scouts or being a student, I like playing either my trumpet or guitar (I hope to play one or the other at the campfires), jogging with my Dad, or reading any kind of book, newspaper, or magazine. But my biggest passion is being active and outdoors. Rain or shine, I'm looking forward to the campfires, hikes, activities, and happy nature of summer camp.
If your child is a new camper, then my goal is to make them want to come back and have just as much fun next year. If they are returning, then I hope we can make this year the best one they've had yet!
