Sassy Sally (Matt McConnell) - Cabin Counselor

Hello everyone! My name is Matthew McConnell, but in a not-too-far-off, distant, magical galaxy known as Camp Y-Owasco, I go by the name Sassy Sally. No worries, though--I’m filled more with smiles than sass =). I’m currently twenty one years of age and just switched majors at SUNY Cortland from physical education to social philosophy. While at school I realized I was simply working to obtain a job I believe to be more so fun than meaningful, which is why I switched to social philosophy and also why I’m excited to work at Camp Y-Owasco this summer. Not to mention that camp comes with the added bonus of always being fun! Futuristically I’m looking to enroll into the ROTC program to serve my country for a few years, and also to gather funds to tramp around said beautiful country for a while. Aside from the personal gain that I feel the journey has to offer, I’m looking to research many different homeless populations in hopes to better understand the reason and hopefully propose some solution as to why 3.5 million Americans are homeless. If that doesn’t work out the way I plan, I figure I’ll gain some good stories to tell. From there the aim is to end up doing some kind of social work or counseling, and simply enjoying life.
